After its postponement due to COVID-19, UFC 249 is now officially back on. It was announced on April 21st that the promotion has been moved to May 9th, and will be held in Jacksonville, Florida. However, it is not the much-anticipated fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson that fans have been waiting for. Instead, Tony will be up against Justin Gaethje at UFC 249. Initially, Khabib Nurmagomedov was expected to go up against Tony Ferguson to make the third defense of his UFC Lightweight Championship at this event. However, he had to pull out due to travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Nurmagomedov-Ferguson fight has come to be known as the most cursed match in the history of combat sports. This is the fifth time this fight has been scheduled, and then not taken place, in five years.
